iTunes Tips, Tricks, and Shortcuts: Part 1

Help Using iTunes…

So many of us use iTunes, and so many of us would like easier and quicker ways of doing things within it  I’m going to provide you with some of the ways to make your iTunes and iTunes Music Store experiences better. I can’t say how many parts this series will have, but I’m sure you’ll find what you need in them. Some of it may seem basic, and other parts advanced. Feel free to ask any questions and I’ll try to answer them as best as I can.

Get CD Track Info

Many times when you insert a new CD into your computer, iTunes would display “Track 1,” “Track 2,” “Track 3,” and so on, whereas you want real album information, especially before you import the CD. There are two ways to do so.

  1. First, if you’re connected to the Internet you can go to Advanced Menu and select ‘Get CD Track Names‘.
  2. What If your CD is rare and the album information is not in the database online? In that case, you can click the song name twice and then type the title manually. The same applies for the artist and album names.

Adding Songs from CDs

To quickly add a song from a CD to an existing playlist:

  1. Insert the CD
  2. Drag the song from the list of CD tracks to the playlist.

The song is imported into your library and added to the playlist. To add a song from a CD to a new playlist: drag the song from the CD to any blank space in the Source List window. The song is imported into your library and added to a new playlist.

Make Your Own CD From An Album

To make your own CD from an album in your library:

  1. Click Library and choose View > Show Browser (if you see only Hide Browser, then the Browser is already visible).
  2. Drag an album from the Album list in the top-right section of the library to the blank area in your Source List. This creates a new playlist containing just the album’s contents.
  3. Click the album’s playlist icon to select it..
  4. choose File > Burn Playlist to Disc.

Note: To avoid getting the message that appears when you insert a blank CD, click the Burn button before inserting the blank CD.
